The internet is a network of computers.Now just a few special computers,over nine million of all kinds of computers.Similarly it is not just a network,but a network of networks hence the name internet given to it.The internet uses TCP/IP (Transmission control/Internet protocol).

HOW INTERNET WORKS?
Internet works in a client/Server model I.e.,a client requests for information stored on a remotly located server.A client is a hardware connected to the Internet through an internet Service Provider- (ISP) using a dial up line.A client should have an account with the nearest ISP. A client should also configure TCP/IP connection with the ISP over a dial up telephone line,a leased line or via satellite line.
When user sends a request for information on the internet, a burst of data called a packet, flows to the INTERNET Service Provider's server.The server then analyses the request and if the requested data is located locally,the information is returned, in packets to the requesting computer.
If the information is not available locally. The original request to the server where the information is stored.
In return,the target server passes the requested information to the original requesting computer through the providrr's server and the magic of the internet has been performed.This process is called a 'HOP'.
